“As your mayor, I will work to eliminate tolls along 183-A, which are holding back economic growth.
The Central Texas Mobility Authority, an unelected, unaccountable quasi-government agency, oversees tolls on 183-A. Tolls have become controversial in Texas because they have a clear economic cost.
Cedar Park will never become a destination city if residents must pay to get to work and get home again, nor if visitors must pay a toll to shop at our stores and eat at our restaurants.
Drivers pay expensive tolls at every Cedar Park exit except Avery Ranch, which has the effect of bottlenecking traffic south of town.
It’s possible to end these tolls. A toll road in El Paso was eliminated just this past August. A proposed toll road along the Trinity River in Dallas was voted down. There are funds that might be tapped to pay off the 183-A toll road immediately. This can be done and should be done.
I know I can’t eliminate tolls by myself. That’s why I appreciate the efforts of State Rep. Tony Dale and others who have been working down in Austin to end tolls on this highway and the construction of new toll roads throughout the state. As mayor, I’ll work closely with them and do anything I can to help end this burden on our citizens.”
